There are two kinds of directory that come up when you search for an AI agency in the UK. Broad B2B directories such as Clutch, GoodFirms, DesignRush and Sortlist list thousands of technology and marketing firms, and AI is one category among many. Specialist directories such as The Expert Roster, AutomationHire and TrustedAIAgencies (this site) cover AI automation or AI implementation only.

We compared seven directories on five things a buyer cares about: what they focus on, how much of the UK they cover, whether listings are free, whether prices are shown, and how listings are checked. Every claim about another site comes from that site’s own pages, read on 17 October 2026. Where a site does not say something, we write “not stated”. Directories change their pages and plans often, so check the source links before relying on a detail.

A disclosure: TrustedAIAgencies is one of the directories compared. We have tried to describe our own limits as plainly as everyone else’s.

Broad B2B directories

Clutch

Clutch’s UK artificial intelligence page lists firms with a breakdown of their services by percentage, and stated “1,499 Companies” on 17 October 2026. Some profiles on the page are marked “Serves United Kingdom” rather than a UK location, so the figure may include firms that serve the UK without being based there. The top-ranked firms on 17 October 2026 were mostly software development companies for which AI development is one service among several, for example 35% AI development alongside custom software, mobile and web work. Profiles show a minimum project size and an average hourly rate band in US dollars.

A basic profile is free. Clutch Verified costs $499 a year ($42 a month billed annually). Clutch’s help centre says Verified companies go through a business credit check with its partner CreditSafe and need an average rating above 3.0, with an alternative route based on three or more verified reviews. Verified providers are shown above non-verified ones in directories, and the UK AI page states: “We may earn a fee for some placements.”

Good for: reading detailed client reviews. Watch for: the UK AI category is mostly software houses, not automation specialists.

GoodFirms

GoodFirms says it “has reviewed 640 Artificial Intelligence companies in the UK as of October 2026” and that each passes a “4-step verification process (background check, client interviews, portfolio audit, ongoing quality review)”. The list includes software, app development and other technology firms as well as AI specialists. Listings show hourly rate bands in US dollars, and the page gives a median hourly rate of $37 across the category.

A free listing is available (the get-listed page mentions a “23% acceptance rate”). The PRO plan is $49 a month billed annually, and sponsorship is priced on request. Listings marked “Sponsored” pay for premium placement; GoodFirms says this does not affect star ratings or reviews.

DesignRush

DesignRush’s UK AI development page listed 619 companies on 17 October 2026. Most top entries are software and mobile app development firms with AI development as one service. Many profiles show an average hourly rate and a minimum budget in US dollars. Some carry a “Verified” badge, described as “Verified by the DesignRush team for authenticity and credibility”.

The basic profile is free. Paid sponsorship plans buy top positions in category rankings, and the page explains that “Sponsored listings pay for a placement that appears above organic positions.” Organic rankings are based on five factors: top services, reviews, portfolio, awards or press, and team expertise.

Sortlist

Sortlist’s UK artificial intelligence page stated “289 agencies” on 17 October 2026 and mixes AI and software firms with SEO, performance marketing and design agencies. Its “Top Featured” slots include agencies based outside the UK: when we checked, they included agencies located in Turkey, Uruguay and the United States as well as the UK. Each listing shows a “From” price for artificial intelligence work in euros, such as “From €10,000”.

A free profile costs €0. Sortlist+ starts at €129 a month and adds a verified badge, a multi-step verification process and priority visibility over non-verified providers. Sortlist’s pricing page says paid members get “10 to 20 times more exposure” than free members.

Specialist directories

The Expert Roster

The Expert Roster lists AI implementation consultants and agencies, and labels each provider by approach: AI-native, hybrid or automation agency. Its UK page showed 56 providers on 17 October 2026, 27 of them marked Verified. It also covers other countries.

Its methodology sets a floor for being Listed (a real website offering AI implementation, an identifiable person, activity in the last twelve months, clients served in English). Verified means at least two of five evidence signals: vendor certification, a named case study, five or more third-party reviews, cross-listings on two or more directories, and a public footprint. Ordering uses an evidence score, and every profile shows a last-verified date. It states that inclusion is free, that providers cannot list themselves, and that placement is never for sale. There is no standard price field, though some profile descriptions mention a firm’s published fees.

AutomationHire

AutomationHire describes itself as a “UK-Focused Directory” for AI automation agencies, no-code specialists and workflow engineers, with categories such as Make.com, Zapier and n8n experts. It states “500+ Verified Providers”. The submission form accepts providers from the United States, Canada, Australia and Germany as well as the UK.

Providers submit their own listings, which go “Live within 24 hours”, and choose their own hourly rate and minimum budget bands; profile cards show rates such as “From £75/hr” and star ratings. Its pricing page says “Everything is free right now” while the site builds an audience, including a “Verified badge (manual review)”. The criteria for that review, and how ratings are collected, are not stated on the pages we read.

TrustedAIAgencies

This directory lists 277 UK AI automation agencies and consultancies. All current listings were compiled by us from public sources, mainly each agency’s own website; agencies can also ask to be listed. Before listing, we check the same things for every agency: that the website is live, that the business states a UK presence and that it describes AI or automation services. Each profile links to its sources and shows the date we checked them.

Prices appear only where an agency publishes one: 113 of the 277 listings, which we analysed in our study of what UK AI automation agencies charge. We show no star ratings. Where an agency has public reviews, we link to them on Google, Trustpilot or Clutch.

Our main limit is that most listings have not been reviewed by the agencies themselves. Every listing is either “Listed” or “Verified”. Verified means the agency has confirmed control of its website domain, and we have confirmed an active Companies House company and a UK address or phone number. Listing is free; a Featured placement and ads marked Sponsored are paid and always labelled. Full details are in how we list and verify agencies.

How to use directories well

  1. Use a broad directory for reviews. Clutch, GoodFirms and DesignRush hold far more client reviews than any specialist site. Read the reviews, not just the star rating.
  2. Use a specialist directory to find automation firms. On the broad sites, the UK AI category is dominated by software houses. If you need a workflow, chatbot or CRM automation, a specialist list is quicker.
  3. Check what “verified” means on that site. A badge can mean a credit check, a paid plan, evidence of past work or simply domain control.
  4. Notice paid placement. On most directories, the first results can be sponsored. Look for the label.
  5. Check the agency yourself. Whatever the directory, confirm the company, ask for references and get a written scope. Our checklist for choosing an AI automation agency covers what to ask.

What we could not verify

  • How AutomationHire checks providers before giving its Verified badge, and how its ratings are collected.
  • Whether any directory’s figures, such as Clutch’s 1,499, GoodFirms’ 640, DesignRush’s 619 or Sortlist’s 289, include firms based outside the UK with a UK office. We report the numbers as each site states them.

Good for

  • Choosing where to start a search for an AI automation agency
  • Agencies deciding which directories to list on

Not for

  • Judging the quality of a specific agency (check its work and references directly)

Frequently asked questions

Which directory is best for finding a UK AI automation agency?
It depends on the job. Large B2B directories such as Clutch, GoodFirms and DesignRush have the most client reviews but mix AI automation with software, app and web development firms. Smaller specialist directories focus on AI automation or AI implementation but have fewer reviews. Use a broad directory for reviews and a specialist one to find automation-focused firms, then check each shortlisted firm yourself.
Do agencies pay to appear at the top of these directories?
On several of them, yes. Clutch, GoodFirms, DesignRush and Sortlist all sell paid plans or sponsored placements that can improve visibility, and they say so on their own pages. The Expert Roster says placement is never for sale. TrustedAIAgencies sells a Featured placement and ads marked Sponsored, always labelled as paid and never part of the order of any list.
What does verified mean on an agency directory?
It means different things on each site. On Clutch it means a paid subscription plus a business credit check, or, as an alternative route, at least three verified Clutch reviews and a business history check. On The Expert Roster it means at least two of five public evidence signals. On TrustedAIAgencies, Verified means the agency has confirmed control of its website domain and we have confirmed an active Companies House company and a UK address or phone number. Read each site's own definition before relying on a badge.
