monday.com and Asana are both work management tools. You use them to plan projects, hand out tasks and see who’s doing what. Each has a free plan for 2 people, charges per seat on paid plans and includes built-in automations once you pay. Where they differ is how they sell seats, how much automation each plan allows and how many apps they connect to. Below we compare the plans first, then automation, including Zapier, Make and n8n.

Prices and features checked on monday.com's pricing page, monday.com's plans and pricing help article, monday.com's automations and integrations pricing article and Asana's pricing page on 27 October 2026. monday.com shows prices in pounds; Asana lists US dollars even for UK visitors. We checked from a UK connection. monday.com says the price is set by your billing country and that you’ll see the final price before you pay. We haven’t converted Asana’s dollar prices, so check what you will pay in pounds at checkout. Prices and plans change often.

The short answer

  • Two people, free: both work. monday.com Free allows up to 2 seats and 3 boards. Asana Personal lets 2 people collaborate with unlimited tasks and projects.
  • Small team, lowest price: monday.com Basic is monday.com’s cheapest paid plan (£8 a seat a month, billed yearly), but it has no automations. Asana Starter is $10.99 a user a month, billed yearly, and comes with unlimited automations. For 2 people, monday.com charges for its 3-seat minimum (£24 a month on Basic), while Asana charges for 2 seats ($21.98 a month on Starter).
  • Automations on a budget: Asana Starter includes unlimited rules. monday.com Standard (£11 a seat a month, billed yearly) has automations too, but only 250 actions a month.
  • Team of 2 to 5: Asana sells paid plans for 2, 3, 4 or 5 seats. monday.com starts at 3 seats, then goes up in multiples of 5. So 4 people pay for 4 seats on Asana and 5 on monday.com. From 6 people, both round up to 10.
  • Lots of other apps to connect: monday.com lists 850+ integrations and apps, and Asana lists 100+ free integrations. Each counts these its own way, so treat the numbers as a rough guide. Both also connect through Zapier, Make and n8n.

Prices compared

Prices are per seat (monday.com) or per user (Asana) a month, as shown on the official pricing pages on 27 October 2026 from a UK connection: monday.com in pounds, Asana in US dollars (Asana doesn’t show pounds to UK visitors). They exclude VAT. We haven’t converted currencies.

Some notes on these figures:

  • Currency. From a UK connection, monday.com showed pounds and Asana showed US dollars. monday.com says “the price is determined by the user’s billing country”. Standard and Pro yearly prices were marked as a special offer. For Asana, check the amount in pounds at checkout.
  • Seats on monday.com. monday.com’s help centre says plans start at 3 seats and then go up in multiples of 5. So a team of 4 needs the 5-seat option, and a team of 6 needs 10. Its pricing page says you can ask for a quote above 40 seats.
  • Seats on Asana. Asana’s pricing FAQ says the smallest paid plan is 2 seats. You add seats 1 at a time up to 5, then in steps of 5 up to 30, steps of 10 up to 100, and bigger steps after that. Free guests don’t add to your licence count.
  • Yearly billing. Both charge less per seat if you pay yearly. On monday.com’s prices in the table, yearly works out about 15% (Standard) to 27% (Basic) cheaper than monthly, so up to about 27%. Asana says you save up to 18%.
  • Asana’s UK offer. Asana’s UK discount terms offer 11% off Starter on yearly billing, and 3% off monthly or 19% off yearly on Advanced. It’s open to UK residents who are new customers or free users upgrading. It covers the first term only, and Asana can change or withdraw it at any time.
  • Trial. monday.com’s pricing page says “Start free, no credit card needed” and gives no trial length. Its help centre said, when we checked on 27 October 2026, that signing up starts a 14-day free trial of Pro. Asana’s pricing page showed no trial details.
  • VAT. monday.com says its prices don’t include tax. Asana says it may need to charge VAT, and that VAT-registered businesses can add their VAT number at checkout.
  • Refunds. Asana’s pricing FAQ says it doesn’t offer refunds. If you cancel, you keep paid features until the end of your current billing period.

Free plans

Both free plans are fine for 2 people trying things out, but not for a whole team.

  • monday.com Free: up to 2 seats, up to 3 boards and up to 3 Docs, with 200+ templates and the iOS and Android apps. Its help centre says the Free plan is only offered on its main work platform.
  • Asana Personal: 2 users, unlimited tasks and projects, list, board and calendar views, unlimited storage (100MB per file) and 100+ free integrations.

Automation: built-in rules and their limits

This is the biggest difference between the two.

monday.com includes automations and integrations from Standard upwards, but not on Free or Basic. Each plan comes with a monthly allowance of actions, counted separately for automations and integrations:

monday.com planAutomation actions a monthIntegration actions a month
Standard250250
Pro25,00025,000
Enterprise250,000250,000

monday.com’s own help article says 250 actions a month “is typically exhausted within days” for accounts whose automations notify several people or fill in several columns. It also warns that the Gmail and Outlook integrations can use up a lot of actions. Admins get an email alert at 50%, 75% and 100% of the allowance. Its automations page lists code-free automations for notifications, date reminders, assigning people and creating tasks, built from ready-made recipes or your own.

Asana includes unlimited automations from Starter upwards. Its pricing page lists unlimited rules and a workflow builder from Starter, two-way sync with Jira Cloud from Advanced, and Script Actions on Enterprise. Script Actions let a rule run your own Node.js code that calls the Asana API.

If your team will rely on automations, Asana Starter gives you more room on its first paid plan. On monday.com, budget for Pro if the Standard allowance looks tight.

Zapier, Make and n8n

Built-in automations only work inside each tool. To link monday.com or Asana to your CRM, forms, email or accounting software, you can use an automation platform. The three main ones all have connectors for both:

monday.com’s pricing page also lists a daily API call limit by plan (1,000 a day on Standard and 10,000 on Pro), so ask whoever builds your flows how they will count towards it. Our n8n vs Make vs Zapier guide explains how the three platforms compare on price and hosting. You can also read our monday.com, Zapier, Make and n8n pages.

Integrations and AI

  • Integrations. monday.com lists 850+ integrations and apps, plus no-code platforms, APIs and an MCP server for AI tools (monday.com's integrations page). Asana lists 100+ free integrations, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and Slack, and adds Salesforce, Tableau and Power BI on Advanced (Asana's apps directory). The two count integrations differently, so the totals aren’t a like-for-like comparison.
  • AI. Both include some AI on paid plans, with limits. monday.com lists monthly AI credits per plan (1,000 on Basic, 2,000 on Standard, 3,000 on Pro). Asana includes AI Studio and AI Teammates on Starter, with 5 requests per user a month (up to 50 per account), and sells extra requests.

When to get help

You can set up either tool yourself. It can be worth paying for help if you’re moving lots of projects over from spreadsheets or another tool, or want monday.com or Asana connected to your CRM, forms and finance tools.

Good for

  • monday.com: teams that want flexible boards for projects, sales or operations, and a long list of integrations and apps
  • Asana: teams that want project and task management with unlimited rules from the first paid plan
  • Either: teams that plan to connect other tools through Zapier, Make or n8n

Not for

  • monday.com Basic: anyone who needs automations, as they start on Standard
  • monday.com Standard: teams with heavy automation, as 250 actions a month can run out quickly
  • Asana Personal: teams of more than 2 people

Frequently asked questions

Is monday.com or Asana cheaper?
It depends on exchange rates, so we don't give a straight answer. monday.com shows prices in pounds; Asana lists US dollars even for UK visitors. On yearly billing, monday.com Basic is £8 a seat a month and Standard £11, while Asana Starter is $10.99 a user a month. Basic has no automations, so if you want them, compare monday.com Standard with Asana Starter. Seat sizes matter too: monday.com charges for at least 3 seats and Asana for at least 2. So 2 people on yearly billing pay for 3 seats on monday.com Basic (£24 a month) and 2 on Asana Starter ($21.98 a month). Check the final price at checkout before you buy.
Do monday.com and Asana have free plans?
Yes. monday.com's Free plan covers up to 2 seats and up to 3 boards. Asana's Personal plan is free for 2 people working together, with unlimited tasks and projects. Neither free plan has built-in automations. monday.com adds them on Standard and Asana on Starter.
Which is better for automation, monday.com or Asana?
Asana lists unlimited rules from its Starter plan. monday.com caps automations by monthly actions: 250 on Standard, 25,000 on Pro and 250,000 on Enterprise, with a separate allowance for integrations. monday.com's own help article warns that 250 actions a month can run out within days. If you automate a lot, keep an eye on that limit on monday.com Standard.
Do monday.com and Asana work with Zapier, Make and n8n?
Yes. Zapier, Make and n8n all have connectors for both monday.com and Asana. They're handy when you need to link your project tool to apps the built-in integrations don't cover, such as your CRM, forms or accounting software.
Do the prices include VAT?
No. monday.com says its prices don't include tax and that the price depends on your billing country, with the final price shown before you pay. Asana says it may need to charge VAT, and that VAT-registered businesses can add their VAT number at checkout to have the exemption processed.
